This triptych represents the last three months of the life of Calleja's mother.  He documented and kept objects from these days of treatment in the United Kingdom. Included in these artworks are correspondence materials they constantly had with their relatives back in Malta; train and flight tickets; medical certificates and information; pages from books he read; and sketches Calleja did during the stay amongst other objects. Included in the central panel is the jersey he was wearing on the day of his mother’s demise.

 

Carved in the panels are a number of prayers, which during those traumatic moments were Calleja's only source for keeping alive the hope and faith that his mother would survive her illness.
